Cheoy Lee

Cheoy Lee is a fifth-generation family business with more than 150 years of continuous operation, originating in Shanghai. It is unusual among Chinese builders in running commercial shipbuilding and yacht building side by side.

Commercial — tugs are the established strength, alongside crew boats, ferries, harbour craft and pilot boats.

Yachts — the CL Yachts GRP production series together with custom projects. Representative work includes the 127 Discovery at 38.71 m and larger projects such as Marco Polo at 170'4". Output runs roughly four to six production boats and one to two custom projects a year.

Production sales are managed through a global network of regional partners and dealers, while custom superyacht work is handled on a project basis. On new development, the yard's stated position is that the specification and design stage determines everything, with substantial effort moved forward into digital design and concurrent engineering to improve consistency; a new model typically takes two to three years from concept, and the 127 Discovery carries a stated build time of around two years.
